Why do pistol rounds/sub-rounds have to be push back below the keeper? But rifle rounds can be pushed through the top?

Most rifle magazines are dual stack/dual feed while, even dual stack, pistol magazines are single feed.

Rifle and most submachinegun magazines feed from both sides of the magazine while pistol magazines feed from the center. Thus rifle and most submachinegun magazines can be loaded by just pushing down on the rounds since there is more room.
