this is a question for our smiths and
experianced tinkerers. i was told by a
company gun smith after i informed him, that the mag release would not allow the magazine to pass till it is depressed,
that this is the way 1911s should work.
i told him i have had many 1911s and have not encountered this before and i
think it is a hinderance to gun opperation. he said he could make it
work my way but made it seem like a
favor . i think it should have been done
"my" way the first time. but i thought
i should ask, there is always something
to learn. thanks

If you mean having to depress the mag catch to insert a mag, you are correct. It should NOT have to be depressed. If yours is hanging up on insertion, something needs to be fitted or replaced.
