Does anyone know where I can find a quality pre-70 series colt hammer. (Wide spur) I have a colt from 1960's which someone put a commander style hammer on and I'm trying to put it back in as original condition as I can. Thanks
Colt stopped putting wide hammers on Government Models when production resumed after the war. If you want original, you want a narrow, serrated hammer. These were standard from the late '40's through early '80's in pre-S80 configuration.
Ebay - www.ebay.com Type in gunparts in their search box. There are a lot of 1911 parts for auction.
Shooter's www.sportsmansguide.com I have there 2001 fall catalog. On page 13 they are selling a complete 1911-A1 parts kit that includes the spur hammer you're looking for.
Thanks for all the input..I would have sworn that the pre 70 series had a wide spur (circa 1911A1 style)..Well I guess I'll try to find a quality narrow spur hammer..Great piece of trivia though..I'll remeber that..
Sometimes folks list their take-off parts from when they get custom work done.
