What is the minimum ammount of ammo you keep on hand at all times? I like to keep at least a couple hundred rounds for my pistols and rifles with the exception of my .22's where I can't even count the number of bricks I have. What about you?

I usually have at least 500 rounds of .45, a couple boxes of shotgun shells, and 50-100 rounds for my hunting rifles. All bets are off with .22lr, though.

When I was reloading a lot, I kept a lot of ammo on hand. I had maybe five boxes (100 rounds) for each of my rifles (except the .22, where I had probably 1000 rounds or so, not counting the shot shells). I had probably 1000 rounds for my .38 Special at one time, and about that much for my .357.

Now, I don't keep nearly that much ammo on hand. If I've got a couple of magazines full of serious ammo for any gun I might need for serious purposes, I'm okay. If I shoot that up for familiarization, I replace it. And I try to keep a box of target ammo on hand for each pistol, too. (My rifles were stolen, so that's moot right now.) So I doubt I have over 100 rounds of .45 right now, and I may have 150 rounds of 9 mm.

The only exceptions are the several hundred rounds each for my .38 and .357, left over from the days when I reloaded more than I shot. Last night, in fact, I found 200 rounds of .38 wadcutters that I forgot I had.

This obviously was a great question, Estela. And the answers are fascinating. They are also making me smile a little.

No offense, but if I had $1000 to spend, I'd buy another gun, not several cases of ammo.

I like to shoot so I try and keep 500 rounds of 45, 44, and 357(38spcl). About 150 rounds of 9mm and 32. And a brick or 2 of 22lr.

Ok, I only have 2 loaded clips for each handgun, a fully loaded 12, and a drum of .308 What in the world do you need to keep 1000's of rounds on hand for? Worried that the locals are going to revolt or something? Sure I buy lots of ammo to go shoot but I shoot it all at the range. Maybe it's cause I don't reload yet.

If you do not reload and shoot much at all it is a lot cheaper to buy ammo a case at a time and when you find a real good deal maybe 2 at a time. It eventually adds up

i alway's keep ton's of ammo at hand, i hardly ever reload for a handgun any more, because i can buy it cheaper than i can make it
just recently a gunshop hade buy two box's and get the thired box free
so i bougt a 1000rds and got 500rds free
so 1500rds for the price of a thousand. im a thrifty shopper. i hade 1300rds in my ammo box aready.so 2800rds in .45acp alone. for my h-power 1350rds. that in commercial. now in reloads, i would have to go in my gun room and start counting
i have a small collection of fire arms, so i reload for 23 differnt calibor's. believe me go to the range a run ammo through your gun's youll start reloading too.$$$ a gun is useless without ammo. you can never have too much of eather. guns and ammo. well thats my2cents worth lol.

Looks like I'm in the definite minority here. I keep one box of Hydra Shocks each in .38spl. and .45acp.

There's assorted 12 ga. loads in the ammo box, maybe 3 boxes total. Possibly 200 rounds of .22 lr.

If I go to a gunshow I'll pick up maybe 200 rounds of ball for the .45 (enough for one range trip) and that's splurging. Nothing against you stockpilers, wish I could afford to buy it by the case myself!

500 .22 PPC
1,000 12 gauge
10,000 22LR

Minimum. Full stock at the beginning of summer is double these amounts. Could not get by with less.

Before I was turned on to buying bulk, I only kept 50-150 9mm rounds and 50 .45cal rounds on hand at any time. Personal defense ammo is never more than 20 rounds per pistol, including what's loaded. I used to buy/shoot JIT.

Now I start to feel like I'm running out of ammo when the case of 1K rounds drops below half full.

I like to buy in case lots. Replenishing when I down to 300 rounds.

Thus 1 case 45acp
1 case 9mm
1 case 7.65mm

This is all ball ammo. I keep a limited number of hollow points perhaps 50 rounds each caliber.

Hey Maclean3. check out natchezss.com right there in your home state. They sell most ammo cheaper than any gun show, Winshester 230gr for 10.forty something They are in Chatttanooga so shipping would be nominal
