Background-former Glock 30 guy, switched to 1911's last year. AKA, went from near to the finger joint to the finger pad.
I'm right-handed, but left eye dominant.

7 yards-SA Ronin .45 on the left and Ruger CMD .45 on the right. Started at the top targets, alternating 5 shot strings, and worked my way down.

Since they're both shooting left, I'm wondering if it's me.

Moved out to 15 yards. The Ronin hits are marked, the rest are from the Ruger.

Just in case you are shooting well and you are not the problem.
Instead of the classic sight picture place center target over the left parting line.
(the bright vertical line between the left side of the front sight and the left inner side of the rear sight in a normal sight picture)
My paper punchers are set up this way so I can see if not control a smaller arc.

Sight adjustments on a 1911 are a combination of mechanical accuracy and user input. Not only adjust to the gun but adjust the gun to you. In the end it's a comfortable, repeatable, working partnership.

Terrific thread folks. Really. I've been working on a couple of these issues and making some progress. You have
identified some other beneficial things to try. I know they will help also. Thanks.

Just move the rear sight to the right. If you suddenly develop perfect technique later or change the load...adjust again.
I'd try 15-20 yrds from a rest to see what grouping confirms.
That's me - I shoot like I shoot, and adjust the rear sight accordingly.

When checking sight adjustment on a handgun, it is a good idea to use a rest to determine if it is necessary.

Many times a shooter will discover the gun is accurate but they have not yet developed the muscle memory needed to fire it accurately.

Developing these skills takes lots of repetition using good habits. It will come, sir. Just takes some time. Looks like you may be anticipating the shot a little and pushing them left.

A dealer here had similar ideas, he set his sights so his .22 shot to the left corner of the front sight. He said that gave him a better aim to shoot at songbirds.

Were they singing off key or something?

Yep. A second-shooter is a Good Idea. It could be you and not the gun.

You already know the answer.

The majority of your hits (with defined groups) with BOTH guns are left of center.

Center up your groups. Win.

Darn good shooting on those four little targets.

As to pulling to one side... mine used to do that.
I have noticed with practice it does less so.

Grip width may also be an issue; wider or thinner grips can effect how it sits in hand and centers naturally. I recently put slightly thicker grips on mine (did not intend to but that's how it worked out) and lo and behold, it aims off to the side much less with the laser practice thing. Will see at the range if it helps in real life use.

I'll be honest, I've never seen this target prior to today. I'm going to have to print a few dozen to take to the range next time.
I bought a packet of them, and I just can't recall the damned link to the store!

**UPDATE-It was me....
After the great advice here and also watching a series of videos from Dave Spaulding, I went back to the range and saw the improvement.

The results? Moved my trigger finger a little closer to the joint and added more left-hand input. 15 rounds in each target at 7 yd. (Ruger LW CMDR)

12 rounds at 25yd. (Ruger CMDR)

There's a couple that don't suck! Going to keep on working on it and tighten those groups.

I've been shooting revolvers and pistols for over 40 years but shot my first 1911 last year. If you're also new to the platform, there's good advice in this thread and I really liked these videos-

I agree with that. I'm right handed and left eye dominant, and all my handguns have the rear sight slightly drifted to the right to compensate.
Hate to say it...it probably is due to you

I had a similar experience this past weekend shooting a new tanker. Right handed, but left eye dominant. I know there will be a learning curve. I’m coming from striker fired pistols. Thanks for creating this thread.

I went to the web address shown on the target and downloaded the targets for free. I've got a dozen waiting for a trip to the range this going weekend.
One thing I’ll add is not to forget how much influence your ammo has on accuracy. I learned this with some reloads that I made up which were 200g lead semi wadcutters that my buddy that owns the local reloading shop had a friend of his cast up.

I made some up a while ago & they were quite accurate, so I recently bought another 400 bullets and quite frankly they are just terrible ! At 10yds they produce about a 1-1 1/2 ft (yes foot) pattern vs shooting Berry’s 200g Target Hollow Points that gave me a 1-2in pattern, same gun , same loading (5.4-5.5g of Accurate #2) just very different results. The swcl’s also produce a number of key holes which should tell me something just not sure what.

If you are shooting “factory” loads those effects should be less pronounced but different bullets give different results.

one other thing I’ll add is that I had all my rear sights drifted pretty much all the way right with very controlled/tight groupings (like yours) and then this past November I had cataract surgery on both eye’s and now I’m finding that I’m having to drift the rear sights pretty much back on center, I don’t understand it but that’s the way it is. Hope this helps.

Update from the rook one last time-

Three more range visits since my last post. I made two more modifications that worked for me.

#1-Thumb riding the safety. Tried it for a 5 round string and it worked, so kept doing it.
#2-Blacked out the rear sight dots. I can see the front sight better without using bifocals.

Today's results, my 15yd targets now look like the 7yd targets I posted above.

It's been a while, so I brought the Glock 30 to make sure it still works. It's been a long relationship, but it's over....😁
