For "regular" IWB the VMII has been great - very discreet with a covering garment(Domke Vest).

For Summer I'm forgetting the vest and trying the tuck clips. The problem is that even with a very generously cut shirt (Ex Officio Travel Shirt) blousing over my belt I still appear to have a huge bulge on my hip.

Any advice on how to better conceal an Officer's Model while allowing light to moderate outdoor activity would be greatly appreciated.

You might start by placing the rig a little further back.

I originally developed the VM-2 for tuckable use with my Officers model and I found that it worked best for me if the gun was just far enough back, that when viewed from the front there was little or no bulge to be seen. On me that would put the front clip right about where the pelvic bone juts out.

The wide spacing of the clips helps straighten out the bend the belt must take when strung over top of the holster and does help give a more natural appearance of the belt. But there will be a bulge, slight or large depending on the make of the gun and there is no getting around that. We can only attempt to camouflage that bulge and that can be difficult to do when the bulge is right out there for everyone to see. The best way is to place the holster in a position that the bulge of the gun is minimized and blends in to the contour of the body and for most people that would be just slightly behind the hip.

Everyone is a bit different and I find that when I'm tucking the gun, jeans seem to hide the bulge a bit better than when I'm wearing dockers.

Personally, I much prefer wearing something like a banded bottom polo shirt, or shirt that is meant to be worn untucked to cover the VM-2 as opposed to tucking my shirt over top of it.

I have always tried to market the VM-2, first as a conventional IWB with the tuckable option being somewhat of a bonus. Unfortunately not everyone will be able to make the tuckable mode work to their satisfaction.

It just happened that the UPS man brought my VM2 (black horsehide) 10 minutes ago. I bought it through Allan Yoast. (Thanks Allan). It is my third IWB from Sparks (Summer Special, Exec. Companion were the first two). It's very comfortable and more stable that the previous two designs. I plan to only use it as a conventional IWB. I think I'm gonna really like this leather. I tuck mine so that the forward clip is just behind the vertical seam of my jeans on my hip. Places the rear clip just the other side of a belt loop on my jeans. That sits just about right.

But there is a bit of a bulge. No one ever notices. Heck, most of us over 40 have a few bulges in the wrong places. I'm about 6'1", 220 lb. If I were thinner it might be more noticeable.

Just returned from bus. travels and read the replies to the post - many thanks to all.

I'll try adjusting the holster around a bit for a more natural appearance. If it doesn't look right, I may just swap out the 1911's checkered grips for smooth (so I won't be rubbed every wrong way) and wear a Polo Shirt untucked with no undergarment.

My VMII for a P7 conceals very well when tucked. Unfortunately, the rear clip never stays put when I draw. The pistol comes out cleanly, but no matter how well I think I've secured the rear clip, it won't hold. Any suggestions?

IMHO AFS Slimtech slim grips make a world of difference concealing ANY 1911 - they're smooth and that slight change in thicknes makes a HUGE change in pistol grip leverage from the body. Huge.

Those, with my VM2 (which I agree, is not merely a pure tuckable that compromises untucked shirt IWB - its fantastic stability makes it my favorite untucked IWB period) is a great combo.

Buzz, I have seen this. Heck I have drawn and had the whole rig come out with me. In a MATCH! God was I embarrassed. lol

What turned out to be the problem was not the holster but the pants. The clip seems to be designed to hook over a small lip in the waistband of the slacks. The walking pants from Cableas I had did not have enough lip to hold the clips. With jeans and all my other pants, the clips work fine when they can hook to the wasteband.
