I think the trouble is that a Frame (TRASHED or NOT) is still a firearm (therefore BATF paperwork and backround check). For all the trouble you'll go though, you can get a CHEAP 1911 Frame at a Gun Show, or an NEW ESSEX Frame (#285-000-002) form Brownell's for about $152.00.
Need a trashed M1911 frame
I have a buddy who wants to pick up a trashed out m1911 frame really cheap. He will use it to build a non-firing gun that he will attache a scuba powered dry firing system for bullseye rapid fire practice.
If the frame will still accept a trigger function and still has reasonable remnants of rails, it will be enough.
Does anyone have such an animal they would like to get rid of?
