I am new to the forums, but have had a colt lightweight commander for years. Just picked up (or on layaway, anyway) an officers acp-one of the newer versions. It has extended ambi saftey, beavertail and a dovetailed front sight. it is the steel framed version and was slightly used, a few marks on the stainless slide, but it's a user and a carry piece, so that does not matter much. picked it up for $550 out the door-seemed like a good deal to me, in comparison to the colt prices I have seen recently. My questions are:
Is this a "XS" model or a "XSE"?
I've never had a Officers ACP before-what is different about them compared to the commander (noticed the barrel was different)?
Are there any good online resources where I can learn more about the officers acp, besides right here?
Have there been any problems with these models recently?
Sorry for all the questions-I look forward to hanging out here and learning more.
cheers,
Derek

Dwenslen....
Sounds like you have an XS Officer model. From what I was told by Colt customer service the Officer model was discontinued after the XS model was produced, to be replaced by the Defender. So, if it is an XS model, it should have ambi safeties, rosewood double diamond grips, Novak type (wedge shape) rear sight with allen set screw, and an upswept beavertail. The top of the slide should be round, not flat.

PS: You got a good deal, enjoy.

That sounds just like it.
I don't really care about collectors value, since I shoot all that I have, but it's nice to know that there are not alot around. I guess the sales were better with the defender model.
thanks for the info

You're welcome. The XS series was made to compete with Kimber head on. In my opinion, the XS guns were some of the nicest to come out of Colt. Everyone that I know who is interested in Colts has kept on the lookout for Governments, Concealed Carry Officers, Commanders, and Officers in the XS series. The new XSE guns don't have the ambi safeties, the upswept beavertail, the Novak wedge rear sights. All of the Officers models that I have seen have had McCormick trigger components. With less bells and whistles, the XSE guns are also more expensive than when the 1999 model XS guns were produced.
Enjoy it. It's a keeper.

I'm having problems with the bushing on this officers-it is very tight and will not come off, even with a wrench. I had to wrench it open, then use a nylon punch to punch it out.
I'm gonna try to order a stock one from brownells-then again, since this is second hand, who knows what has been done with it-although I can't tell.
they don't come with some sort of funky non-standard bushing-do they? I don't want a bushing I can't remove by hand.
thanks again,
Derek
