I would like to install Novak mk2 sights on my mk3 Browning Hi Power. I like the appearance. Novak informed me last year that they no longer offer mk2 sight installs on the mk3 models. Does anyone on this forum know of a gunsmith, who does these? Thanks for any help.

Did they say what the issue was?

Does the dovetail in the slide need to be milled, or was the MK3 dovetail larger than the MK2?

If it's the former any competent smith can mill the slide.

Novak replied to my inquiry regarding mk2 sights on mk3 hi powers. They explained the install required a "weld up" and they no longer provided that service. I believe they have to mill the slide, weld up and finish mill. If you look at the old Novak hi powers you can see the difference in appearance. I know most people probably don't care. For me though, it is kind of like the three bears story. The new mk3 sight is too small, the 1911 sized sight is too big, the mk2 sights on the mk3 is just right!:)

Go to their website and take a peek. I like Novak and I like Heinie. My recommendation is to spring for the extra bucks and get the tritium dots with white outline.

Some food for thought:

HP with Heinie's and a gold bead

HP with Heinie's and a gold bar (Don Williams install)

HP with 1911 Novak's and a gold bead (Don Williams install)

If I were to do it all over again, they would all have the 1911 Novak’s with a gold bead.

GunsnRovers,

Thanks for the pictures that helps a lot. I am leaning towards the Heinie with straight eight tritium, if I can't get the Novak mk2 on mk3 install. I believe that I have had this picture in my mind of the Novak mk2 on mk3 for so many years, that it "looks right" to me,I don't know if I can even afford the install.

I really like the Heinie sights except for the extra business at the rear. I always cut those feet off and eliminate the step cut in the slide. Makes for a cleaner install to my eyes/taste.
