Hey guys-another question. My officers XS is great, I've put about 300 rounds through it so far without a hitch. Only thing I want to change is teh bushing, as it was tight to remove and the last owners used a pair of pliars or something similar, so I have a stock colt one on order from brownells. Anyway, my question is regarding the springs-is the double spring set up reliable-or should I go to a singe 22lb wolff spring? Since this is a carry weapon, I want it to remain as stock as possible and it must work! Also, how often should my recoil spring be changed in this little pistol-several thousand, or is it a shorter life span due to the shorter slide?
thanks again

Robb-
my bushing is loosening up from shooting, so I will probably stick with the colt one...I got a kings one from brownells but it is no looser than the stock one and does not fit my wrench...go figure.
do you have a website addy for Clarks?
I was curious what the advantage was when using a double spring, or if a single stronger spring would be as good or...?
thanks,
Derek

Mark from IMSI was working on a
spring system to replace the problematic officers spring system. He was working on a flat spring like a Glock. I think he was develouping a reverse plug also.
If the Clark has the plug with the flange
also go for it.
Kings makes a wrench for there bushing. The stock bushing is frail, as is the plug.

My Officer's has been perking right along with a King's Bushing/Guide Rod kit for many years. You will have to replace the dual springs occasionally.

IMSI is supposedly the new hot deal in long life springs, and I believe they guarantee their Officers spring setup to not take a set - long term.

I still like the King's Officer's bushing - it is stronger and serves as a "match bushing" to improve accuracy. A standard wrench used across the flats can remove it easily.

Warmly, Col. Colt

I ordered the plug from clarks last night, and will order the bushing wrench from kings to fit the bushing I got from brownells. the trigger on mine is fine, I'm not even going to go to a reduced power mainspring. Also have the single wolff spring coming to me-should have it all together by this weekend for some t&e.
cheers,
Derek

My Officer's ACP has the Wolff 22lb. single spring and an Ed Brown Bushing, which is just like the Colt unit except that it has a little more meat on it and fits a bit more snug.

I haven't replaced the stock plug yet, but the Clark one sounds like a good idea.

I spoke at some length with Mark at ISMI, also. I was looking for a replacement spring for my Combat Master, and bought a couple of his OACP flat wire springs. Due to some dimensional differences, it didn't work out as planned, but if I had an OACP and was going with an aftermarket spring/rod system, I'd give ISMI a look. You need to order the spring/rod/plug as a set, but I think it provides more in-battery pressure, without going to a too-high overall rate, than conventional single or double springs. There is a lifetime warranty on the spring.

the kings bushing will loosen up over time-go out and shoot the hell out of it and it will help. I ordered the kings wrench the other day-very nice on the phone.
ordered the clarks plug too, and a one piece wolff spring.
the plan to keep this completely stock has flown out the window!
cheers,
Derek

Robb-

The Ed Brown unit is snug in my Colt, but still loose enough that I can turn it with my fingers. The factory Colt bushing is very loose. I went with the Brown unit because it's about 1/32" thicker around the flange, but aside from that looks exactly like the factory part.
