Thanks to everyones help I at least have decided on black. Am narrowed down to Ahrends ebony,Eagle ebony, Eagle checkered Buff. Horn, and Navdirex micarta. Two questions I need help on 1) Why is Eagles ebony checkered ($75.00) so much more expensive than its competitors? Is the quality better? 2) Of the three materials that I mentioned,do they wear in much the same manner (Ishoot this gun a lot)? Are their appearance comparable. Price isn't the concern here, I just want to like what I buy. I have a bunch of un used grips laying around for various guns.

Thanks again
Charlie B.

Micarta is way tougher than Ebony. I have a pair of skip checkered ebony grips that cost 36 bux from Ahrends. Don't know about the buffalo horn toughness.

Think about it Jim, if its tough enough for a buffalo, a 1911 should be a snap.
