I'm considering a holster for my new, and first 1911, a Springfield. I'm sure I want a leather, pancake style and will not spend more than $75. Any suggestions? Also, I've seen some that have a protective tab on the body side to cover the thumb safety. Is this a useful feature? Thanks for the input.

Both the Sparks "Improved Baker" and Lou Alessi's Belt Slide Unit are superior examples of the "pancake" genre. You might also check Mark Waldon's and Ron Graham's lines for models that appeal to you.

The URL's for these makers can be found in this site's "links" section.
