This was a 1st for me, but maybe not for others.

I was shooting at the range this weekend as usual. The guy two lanes to my right was blasting away with a short barreled single action cowboy shooters gun in some very very loud caliber. :mummy: I was basically getting used to the intense blam, blam, blam when I suddenly heard blam, blam, shwing, clank, bonk, "oh crap". Apparently the spent case ejector rod assembly below the barrel of his gun went fyling all over his shooting area including into his forehead (the spring or something thrown by that spring) which he was rubbing fiercely when I went to check on him. We found all the parts and he was OK except for a very nice knot forming on his forehead. :grumble:

From the look of that knot on his head I was still very glad that the "whatever" missed his eyes which at least were protected in some way.

I have seen parts fall off of guns before but I had never seen them do the sharpnel flying thing until this weekend. :hrm:

Anyone else see or experience the gun part sharpnel thing?

Oh, I intentionally put "shooters gun" in the title as I did pick up a used gun in the range shop one time and had the sights fall off onto the counter, much to the salesperson's and my suprise.

vacquero:

i hear ya. i went home and checked the screws on my guns after that one.

PART 2 on this one:

i was back at the range yesterday afternoon eating up vacation time and shooting. the same gentleman came in again with that same gun just as i finished shooting. i asked him how things had turned out with his gun. apparently the piece holding the screw (with the screw still in place holding the ejector outer assembly to that piece) had itself snapped right out of the front off the underside of the barrel. he had taken it to a local smith and had just picked it up and was back at the range to try her out.

we talked a bit and he then went on into the range. within a few moments he was out again with those same pieces back in hand, but this time they (he and his buddy shoot together) did not find the spring. the weld or glue (guy was not sure which had been done) by the smith had not held and the piece went flying off again again during the 1st five rounds out of the gun. this time nothing whacked him in the head for which he said he was greatful.

he just shrugged and said he would take it back and see if they would make it good. this guy definately has some patience.
