I got my wife a Glock 36 for Christmas and she got me the new Colt WWII 1911A1 reproduction. It is a sweet pistol.
Before I bought my first 1911, I spent quite a bit of time researching what I wanted(reading anything I could get my hands on). I read through the archives here (including the stuff about Kimbers, Springfield, etc). I thought I wanted a Kimber Gold Match. Then I saw/held one at a gunshow. It seemed like a fine pistol but it just didn't do it for me. I can't really explain it but I just didn't say "Wow" when I saw it.
I thought I would start out with a basic 1991 and then go from there but then I came across the WWII repro. Here's a gun with character and I definitely said "Wow" when I saw it.
I picked it up from the shop tonight and all I can say is that, to me, it seems like a really sweet pistol. I read in some of the past posts here that folks had seen these pistols arrive at stores with poor finishes, poor fittings, etc. This one is beutiful. It's finish is flawless, It's slide/receiver fit is really tight, the trigger is not a match trigger but it's not a match pistol, either
For defensive use, I have always been a Glock man so I'm not claiming to have any where near the 1911 knowledge that you folks have but if any of you have any questions about the pistol, just ask and I'll tell you all I can.
Thanks for listening to my ramble
