I got my wife a Glock 36 for Christmas and she got me the new Colt WWII 1911A1 reproduction. It is a sweet pistol.

Before I bought my first 1911, I spent quite a bit of time researching what I wanted(reading anything I could get my hands on). I read through the archives here (including the stuff about Kimbers, Springfield, etc). I thought I wanted a Kimber Gold Match. Then I saw/held one at a gunshow. It seemed like a fine pistol but it just didn't do it for me. I can't really explain it but I just didn't say "Wow" when I saw it.

I thought I would start out with a basic 1991 and then go from there but then I came across the WWII repro. Here's a gun with character and I definitely said "Wow" when I saw it.

I picked it up from the shop tonight and all I can say is that, to me, it seems like a really sweet pistol. I read in some of the past posts here that folks had seen these pistols arrive at stores with poor finishes, poor fittings, etc. This one is beutiful. It's finish is flawless, It's slide/receiver fit is really tight, the trigger is not a match trigger but it's not a match pistol, either

For defensive use, I have always been a Glock man so I'm not claiming to have any where near the 1911 knowledge that you folks have but if any of you have any questions about the pistol, just ask and I'll tell you all I can.

Thanks for listening to my ramble

Most excellent choice! I carry mine daily in a VersaMaxII holster from Sparks. It has NEVER failed to feed or fire. Accuracy is decent and getting better all the time, as I tweak my homerolled ammo to suit.

Sweet gun, great choice. Kudos!

WHAT?!? An admitted Glockaholic finally breaking down and getting a 1911, and a vintage-styled one at that?

Welcome to the Dark Side, my young apprentice.

Harry, I'm not sure if I could get used to carrying a gov't model everyday. My Glock 30 is kind of like my American Express.

dsk, Yep, I've taken the plunge. I've never really understood why folks do the "1911 vs. Glock, which is better" type of thing. I think they're two different animals. Don't get me wrong, I love my Glocks and I literally trust my family's life on them but the 1911 has it's place, as well. There's a reason why it's been in use for almost 100 years.

I figure that everyone should have a 1911 in their 'arsenal'. I figure everyone should have a Glock, too (can I say that here?
It's ok, I plan on going over to GT and gloat about my new baby)

There are fanatic's on both side, and usually when the discussion comes up, they get involved very quickly and loudly.
Of course, Colt doesn't say their product is perfect... :)

Colt WWII reproduction

Everything that I have seen come out of the Colt Custom shop is really nice. I also have a repro and I love it. Too bad everything Colt makes is not done to this quality. If they did, they would probably still dominate the market.
