It isn't a 1911, as the hammer is not exposed. The grip safety pivots on the other end. It seems to be more of a striker fired pistol to me. considering the trigger it appears to be single action.

The ease of pulling the slide back is a big plus for many people. I know of some that have arthritis in their hands and semi-autos are a big hassle for them. So this may be fairly popular with these kinds of people and others with weak hands.

The only plastic frame 1911 I know of is the one made by EAA in their .45 ACP Witness series. It is full size and has a plastic frame and uses regular 1911 magazines too.

Is there a demand for a 380 you can put a light or a laser on?
I bought a S&W Bodyguard 380 with the built in laser. But really I don't see much need for the laser. But maybe it is possible it might serve as a deterrent in some cases. It is cute and sorta neat though. But the batteries run down after a while so you need to replace them more often than I like. But the laser does work OK if the batteries are not run down on you. I doubt using a add on laser is worth it as it makes the gun much larger in size. As weird as it is the gun store was selling the guns with or without the laser for the same price. So I opted to get the one with the laser built in.

I do like the little gun though. it does work really well and eats everything I fed it too. It does take a bit of getting used to the double action only trigger though. But if you shot double action revolvers you would pick up on it real quick. it is tiny and it takes a short while to figure out a good way to hold the little gun. But it is a amazingly little gun that is very flat. I like to carry it in the hot summer as it is pretty much invisible in a pocket holster in my pocket.
