After many 1911 disappointments, I've again taken the 1911 plunge - this time with a S&W stainless 1911. So far, I'm highly impressed. Quality appears to be great and it's been 100% reliable so far. One question: The thumb safety on mine is black with a plum-colored cast to it. Looks like the safety on a Bulgarian Makarov I once owned. From photo's on the web, I see that others have the same tint. I've convinced myself it adds a bit of quirky character to the gun. But does anybody know if there's a reason for them using a not-quite-black safety?
