I believe if they are made of cotton wouldn't the patches cause wear on the sharp rifling edges? It is recommended to push the patch thru the chamber end to the muzzle. I'm not sure, but cotton is supposed to be naturally abrasive, which is why it's not recommended to clean eye glasses with cotton. Just a thought I pondered while cleaning my new to me HiPower.

There isnt enough cotton in the world to wear out or damage a barrel.

Clean fron chamber to muzzle as it lessens the chance of gouging the edge of the muzzle with a cleaning jag.

I've been using my old terry socks for cleaning patches for years! If cotton wore out steel, people who polish cars would be in trouble. And I've seen no damage to accuracy.

If you're really serious about barrel life don't clean it unless you lead it up.

There is generally less than zero good reason to clean a handgun bore. Stop doing it.
This. I just hit it with a bore snake after the ultrasonic to remove anything loosened and to have a light coat of CLP in there

I have cleaned my glasses for decades with a soft cotton t shirt with no problems. I think you are confusing cotton with wool......steel wool. :biglaugh:

I guess it's a stupid question to ponder.

Patches won’t hurt the rifling. The metal brushes can. Feel the bristles on some of the copper or bronze brushes they are stiff like there steel plated.

I clean my bore with patches soaked with USGI rifle bore cleaner. I run two wet patches to soak the bore. Then I wrap a dry patch and run it through the bore till clean and dry. If I use a brush it’s nylon.
