Hello All! My name is Andrew Matheny, and I am a proud new owner of a Loaded Stainless Springfield 1911A1. My question is very simple. On the arsenal stamping, is the year supposed to be 1794 or 1974? On my pistol it reads as follows " Springfield Armory 1974". I was wondering if I had a factory rarity or nothing special.
Thanks to all who respond

Sorry I had to be the one to tell you, but the Springfield Armory of today isn't the same one you are thinking about. You don't have a misprint. The name Springfield Armory was sold when the original from Springifielf Mass went belly up.

Doesn't diminish the fact that you have a nice 1911

that makes me feel better, as I bought this gun to take out and use, not let lie in a safe untouched for twenty years
. It is one sweet shooting pistol!

Congratulations on your new Springfield. I've found that collecting and using guns is a lot more fun than just collecting. Enjoy your new toy.
