From what I've read, a 1964 NM Pistol should (key word, "should") have a barrel marked with the part number "7791414". However, is it possible for a '64 to have a barrel marked "7790313", (the earlier version) and still be as issued from SA? The barrel in question is serially numbered (all digits) to the frame. The pistol in question is in a 7/64 dated box and has the proper "Drake" slidefor 1964. Everything else appears to be as it should. Thanks !!!

1962 was the last year that the 7790313 barrel was used, and also the last year the Micro rear sight and service slide were used. In 1963 they went to a new barrel and Colt NM slide. It would seem out of order that the 1964 Drake slide would be mated to a 1962 barrel. Possibly someone changed out the slide.

That is the correct location for the slide serial number beginning in 1963. I have no idea what you have, but still have doubts about Springfield using a barrel that had been superseded by a barrel with what was considered improved tolerances.
