Let's say I want to have $10,000 in ready funds available not in a bank. What is the best/ safest form to have that money in? Is there anything better than just paper currency? Just thinking out loud here...

US pre 1964 silver coins, 90% silver content. Dimes, quarters, half and whole dollars.

Never gave any thought to liquor, but does make sense. Probably better if in glass versus plastic. I think some plastics will allow oxygen to leach into the bottle/ container.
And I think you'd want to be very cautious bartering ammo/ weapons.
And, no you can't eat gold or silver but I still believe having some can't hurt in the short term at least. Junk silver coins are in my stash.

1stCavScout brings up a good point, there's allot of folks who have no or very little hands on skills when it comes to things like a veggie garden, hunting (or fishing), working on engines or building anything ! Those of us who have grown up doing this kind of stuff will be better situated.

Books are great but real life experiences will be what counts.
