I'm replacing the stock SA adjustable rear sight in my SA SS .45 with a Burris fast fire sight. Can anyone tell me the type of notch that is in the slide?

Should be the standard 3/8" dovetail. I have heard a few complaints about Springfield rear sights occasionally being loose in the dovetail. Not sure whether the problem was determined to be with the sight or with the dovetail.

If you mean what cut the rear sight is you are looking for a Novak cut. Hope that helps

Thought the factory target rear sight was a Bomar style
