pkf, a red ramp sight is a regular ramped front sight with a red insert in it. The front sight on the old S&W revolvers like the Model 66 .357 are the example that comes to mind.

The advantage is you can pick up the front sight a little quicker. It has no advantage in low light that I can think of. It doesn't light up like a tritium sight to see it better in low light.
