I just aquired a used Colt MKIV series 70 with the collet bushing. I would like to change it out with a solid one. Do they need to be fitted? Or can I just order a drop in from Brownells. What brand is best? Or should I call Colt and ask them to send me one? The only problem is my gun has a nickel finish. I guess I could use a stainless one. What do you think?

Thanks

If your not looking for match accuracy, you can get a Colt factory replacement from Brownells. They carry OEM parts that should drop in. Most aftermarket barrel bushings will require fitting.

Ed Brown makes a stainless bushing that is a drop-in, and in my experience doesn't need to be fitted.
