I have a Rock Island Armory Tactical and I would like to have a adjustable rear sight installed. Does this pistol have a Novak cut? It looks like a standard dovetail to me but I could be wrong. I know the pistol has Novak sights but I wasnt sure if it was a Novak cut on the slide. I need to know what type of sight to order. Thanks

I have one of the newer rear roll mark slides and wanted to upgrade the front sight to a fiber optic set up. It is the same depth as a Novak. My buddy has a Novak front sight cutter; one quick pass through the existing dovetail to clean up the cut and getting it to the proper dimensions and it tapped right in with no extra fit or file work. The cut removed very little metal, so filing the sights to fit seems like a good rainy day project for those with the new sight cut and no access to a mill and the appropriate cutter.

While we were at it I had me machine the rear sight to have a "battle hook" for one handed operation. It was a fun project, and all it cost me was dinner.

Anybody have XS Sights Installed on a 10mm FS? Love these sights just don't know which part # to order. Anyone have dimensions for the Rear Roll Mark Generation? Or which Novak? Colt? STI? Kimber? Wilson Combat Pre/Post 1998?

I have seen other post that people have had to file on a novack aight for it to fit

Dovetails

Hey fella’s, just want to pass on some info I received from RIA’s chief gunsmith Shawn two days ago. I emailed him for the exact dovetail dimensions of my 1911 A1 MS – Tact II.

Here goes: RIA’s Tactical Dovetail Dimensions
Front 0.328W x 0.075D blade 0.180 tall
Rear 0.488W x 0.125D OAL height 0.450

Novak Sights
Front 0.330W x 0.075D blade 0.180 tall
Rear 0.495W x 0.125D OAL height 0.450

Here’s more: RIA has a service to do this work, for those who don’t trust themselves with a file. Shawn will re-machine your slide to Novak dimensions,
perform a reliability tune, and test fire for accuracy all for $120.00. Or $80.00 just for the dovetails. Also, they offer discounted shipping for $40.00 both ways.

If your handy and do your own work and have the right tools go for it. Both F&R dovetails will need a little tweaking more so on the rear dovetail, just go slow and check often. Brownells has the 65 deg. file for $35.00.

It don’t sound like a bad deal to me.

Front sight that was taken off by the shop looks to be .220 and .60 deep

I used this MS Standard slide on a CS to get a CCO

The front sight had a dove tail that was .220 long and around .060 deep, angles were 65 I believe.

Had a shop work the slide to a true novak dove tail .330 and .075 deep and mount a trijicon HD front sight. Rear is a novak ghost.

Unfortunately RIA has a proprietary dovetail for sights. Of course for a fee they will cut and fit Novaks. That really pissed me off. Not cool at all.

Dawson now offers front and rear sights for the RIA cut. Also have sights for the GI type, full size and compact.

So...... there is no putting a set of Trijicon HD's on a Tac Ultra? That is one thing I planned on doing after I grab one.
