I know I've seen posts on this topic before, but I can't find em. I found 3 1/16" rust spots on the dust cover of my old stainless Springfield 1911. Any way to remove without marring the blasted finish? Thanks.
Since the gun has a non-blued finish, I'd suggest using a stain remover such as Tarnite, or any other tarnish remover which lists 'oxalic acid' in the ingredients.
Oxalic acid will digest oxides, without attacking the surrounding stainless steel. It's pretty much wipe-on, wipe-off simple.
