S&B Ammo doesn't make IDPA PF

A caution for any of you who will be shooting at the IDPA Nationals next week. If you are hesistant about flying with ammo and plan to buy your ammo there, be aware that the S&B .38 Special definitely does not make 125 Power Factor. The 9mm S&B is spotty about making 125 PF. S&B performance in other calibers is unknown to me because we have not been chronoing them here in Atlanta.

I have an email from IDPA HQ which states that you must make PF even if you are using factory ammo. So planning to buy ammo at the match is probably not a good idea. It would be a shame to get DQ'd for making an honest mistake.

If I remember correctly, there is a Wal-Mart close by. You should be able to get Winchester White Box, Federal, or Remington UMC there. A call to Rangemaster in Memphis should also let you get the proper ammo required.

Thanks for the heads up! The last time I got chronographed with Remington UMC it comfortably made the old 175 PF for USPSA. If any of you are flying Continental, then me advised their policy is 11 pounds of ammo per gun allowed.
The lot of S&B 115 gr 9mm I plan on using chronographed 1122 fps = pf 129 in the CZ-75 I will be shooting. The slowest S&B 9mm I have shot this year was 1103 fps = pf 126.8, so it is no more than just good enough.
Headhunter, What length barrel are you using to Chrono? It should be a 5" since the 4" rule doesn't take effect till 10-2002.

The 9mm was chronoed in a Glock 17. The .38 in a 4 inch Model 15. I wouldn't count on an extra inch to make enough of a difference to risk getting DQ'd over.
