This is going to sound stupid, I just got my first 1911, a Smith DK. I stripped it to clean and can't figure out how to put it back together. That little lever holds the slide from going all the way to the rear and the manual says to depress the firing pin safty lever. How?

When you slide the slide back onto the rails, don't hold the grip like you would if you were going to shoot it. The thumb safety on the back of the grip engages that little lever on the top and makes it stick up.

So by not pressing the safety on the grip in, that lever on the top goes down, and you can move the slide all the way back to complete assembly.
