SA 2pc guide rod replacement choises...

I just got a SA "Loaded" for $900... Love the firearm but I am NOT a fan of the 2pc guide rod and needing a allen wrench to field strip. What are my options as far as good fitment and minimal fitting? I'm looking at the Wilson Combat... what's yall's take on this? Thanks in advance. Gun isn't broke in yet so I want to do this before break in is complete.

A very simple solution is to clean the threads with alcohol, and Loctite the guide rod together as tight as is reasonable. Then grind the length to 4.00" overall length which will then function as a one piece guide rod, never requiring to be taken apart again.

Personally, I would modify it per log man's instructions. The Colt Gov't one piece would work, as would a standard GI guide rod and plug.
Put the wilson combat one piece flgr in my ss trp. Easier to field strip and was a drop in replacement for the two piece.
Wilson rod and a Colt plug.

There is no such thing as break-in or fitment.
Well, there is such a thing as fitment, but not as it is applied above.
thanks for the quick replies... I love the fact that I have a 70 series 1911 now with a trigger that rivals or surpasses my Kimber TLE/RL II.... accuracry wise, this gun will out shoot the Kimber... and so far (using wilson mags) its reliability has been 100% good to go.

I can't believe how much Kimber asks for a gun that's got an 80 series FCG in it and no ambi safety. Luckily I got the Kimber second hand for $700 and looking new.

What do yall mean by no break in? I always thought a 1911 needed at least 1000 rounds through it before it was settled in and worthy of trusting your life to it. If I'm wrong then I was ill-informed. I listen to those with experience in such a field as I am used to issued polymer pistols that work like AK's.... with AK accuracy (DOC Officer).

Just a point of understanding, Kimbers are not a Series 80 style firing pin block, but are a Swartz type. With Series 80 the block is cleared by the trigger pull, and this adds to the trigger pull weight. The Kimber Swartz type is deactivated by the grip safety which does not add to the trigger pull weight. Both systems should be checked for timing.

A well built 1911 should settle in with either a good bit of oiled hand cycling, or a few hundred rounds. If built with correct timing, clearances, etc. it should run with the first mag, and continue too. Kimber says 500, as a means of putting off a warranty issue in hopes it gets better.

alright log man, sounds like you know your stuff. Thanks for all the information and education.

I'll be modding the stock guide rod per your spec's.

Thanks

btw... are you a stihl or a husky man?
I replaced both of mine with EB guide and plug.

replaced with a Wilson 1pc... drop in fit... feels a litter more nosy heavy yet balanced. Recoil feels more "centered" in hand. If if that makes any since... pictures compare length of Kimber 1pc to Wilson Combat
