Why is that nipple there? And what does it do? Well, it does nothing on mine because I was tired of having the last round in the magazine catch on it and jam, so I dremeled it off. So far it feeds much better but I havent shot it as such yet. Just wondering why they would ever put it there.

The purpose is to provide resistance to feeding the last round so when the slide hits it, it will not jump ahead of the extractor.

If the "bump" caused the last round to jam, it was too high or not properly shaped, but yes, it was there for a purpose.
