I am trying to do some research on a Remington UMC 1911. I was wondering
if anyone knew of a way to search serial numbers or had suggestions that would
help?

Certainly not the best format out there, but they are there.

Remington UMC

JP: Re the gunbroker listing, what looks strange? I'm trying to learn as much as I can on the subject so I don't get scammed. It seems there are more mix masters, home refinish, mis-represented or details intentionally omitted listings out there then honest/accurate representations. Based on my observations 8 out of 10 are trying to make an easy buck passing something off for what it's not.

Not only are you learning about guns, but...

Not only are you learning about guns, but you are learning about human nature. Two for the price of one. Best Karl

The seller describes the pistol as having "eagle proofs", which I take to mean an eagle acceptance mark, but gives the serial number as 280084. The eagles head acceptance mark didn't come into use until the 303,000 serial number range. He gives 280084 as the serial number, but does not show the serial number. The pistol is not a Remington-UMC if the serial number is as stated, which woluld make it a Colt. He doesn't describe the pistol as having any Rock Island Arsenal markings, which RIA applied to everything they got close to.

Parkerizing job looks too new, not like it was done 60 years ago. Might be the flash on the camera - I'd have to see it in the daylight.

To put it more simply, it smells like a POS. No way is it right. That is likely why the key pictures, like the serial number and inspector stamp, are not photoed in detail. Avoid it.
