The collet bushings introduced on the Series 70 Colts were supposed to increase accuracy. In practical use, they showed a tendency to break, and were thusly discontinued.

They would break if the slide ID was a bit too tight, causing the spring fingers to buckle and eventually break. If you have an original Series 70, replace the bushing with a standard solid one and be done with it.

Replace Collet bushing ...

I have ten Colt 45 automatics. Eight of them are series 70's, that HAD collet bushings in them. I had Jim Hoag replace all of the collet bushings with stainless, solid bushings.

Why wait until a problem happens?
