Just curious if anyone else goes through moods or phases with guns. I've been spending a lot of time shooting my 1911s and Euro Autos, but decided to dig out my neglected revolvers today. I dug out both my Cowboy guns (SAAs, Outlaw, and Schofield (all repros)) as well as my 2 1/2" and 4" S&W M66s. Just something about shooting them Cowboys guns just helps me relax.

I carry a Sig 2340 and noticed that I've been rushing through the DA pull of my Sig lately so I decided to go back to basics and go back to my S&Ws to get my DA trigger pull back. I learned how to shoot with a S&W revolver so it helps me to get back to my fundamentals. And to top it off, I walked into a local gun shop after I finished shooting and saw a good looking S&W M686 6" that I'm really pondering picking up.

So my shooting moods include a 1911, a Cowboy, a DA Revolver, a Euro gun (H&K, Beretta, Sig DA/SA), a Glock, and a Rifle mood.

I learned most of my handgunning on the Smith K& L fames also. If I had to pick just one handgun for all my needs, the 686 with a 4 to 6 inch barrel would probably be it. Thankfully, I don't have to and do much the same as you, shoot Old Slabsides this weekend, thw wheelgun my next weekend off, etc. Variety IS the spice of life, truer to me now than ever. I think I'll name my Smith the "Liberal Persuador", and use it to train some brainwashed neo socialist the absolute joys of recreational shooting, so our descendants can enjoy the variety we do.

I am the same way. For a while I will carry NOTHING but the makarov. Then mabye a month later, I have a super strong urge for my revolver. So I end up carrying that for a bit. Then two months down the road, my desires only are satisifed by my Inglis 9mm, and so on and so on.

It's why I bring a half dozen or more guns to the range every time I go - I may think I want to spray lead out of an AK, but be in the mood for popping off black powder once I get there.

My interest goes in cycles, up for a while, down for a while. Been pretty steady though since I got into 1911s, almost a year now and no signs of letting up. Bad news for my pocketbook!
