When I bought my 229 .40 several years back I ordered extra springs (w/ followers?) for the 3 pre-ban 12 round capacity mags. Are current 10 round mags covertible to 12 round capacity using these springs? If so, what is the process? The base plates seem fixed and I don't have a clue how existing springs would be removed. Thanks for any knowledge.

No.
I don't know just what S/S did but reduced capacity magazines must pass BATF approval as not readily convertible to normal capacity. Changing the spring will not likely do the job. It would be illegal as well, although they are not checking mags. Yet.

I think it was Dave at Sigarms that told me the springs for the 12 round and 10 round post ban are one and the same. That explained for me anyway why it was so darn hard to get the last round into the new 10 round I bought a few months ago.
Ditto the legality of trying to convert a 10 to a 12. Just don't do it and save yourself a potential headache.
Regards,
Dan
