With money that they have illegally seized from the citizenry. Now that is what I call good governance.

I'm still bemused by all the "assets" they grabbed at that bank - because a couple of the customers had boxes. So, naturally you seize EVERYONE's stashes..
I love the part regarding the "five weapon limit". Guess they don't want to get too many off the streets.

"A county report recommended against considering the events as a way to reduce crime, citing research showing that such buybacks are not effective in reducing gun violence."

Don't let facts get in the way.

$200 for ghost guns... What's the cheapest "ghost gun" a person can buy / make? Time to start planning an annual trip to Santa Clara county...

They have taken in 500 guns over the last 5 years and according to the article each event costs $75,000 to $100K due to having to pay county staff and law enforcement overtime. Sounds like the biggest benefactors are the county employees raking in easy overtime pay.

I am guessing that theft of guns would go up as well. Now that they know that they can get easy money for them "with no questions asked".

I owned a business and worked in that county for over 30 years. That is one of THE most liberal, anti 2A, woke places on earth!. It ranges from Palo Alto with a bunch of million/billionaires to South San Jose which craphole haven of illegal immigrants.

Nothing about that entire area is good. It literally is impossible to get a CCW permit, unless you have bribed the sheriff, which she got busted for.

Post-Divorce (but long before Palo Alto became a tech center) my Mom sold our house there for $125k. That was in 1977. It was just a regular college town at that time.

That same house recently sold for $7.5 Million. The listing said: "Be neighbors with Mark Zuckerberg"

---------- Anyhow, it's swell to see that our government is now operating as a Fence for stolen guns. Plus also buying ghosts at a profitable manufacturer's margin. hooray :cautious:

On a similar "beneficial law" note, us CA Citizens voted to ban Flavored Vaping Products. I voted for that myself. However, retailers still stock & sell the products. I'm guessing that the bill did not have much, if any, funding for enforcement.

And so it goes.....

So with all of the crime going on City Hall thinks the police should be holding sales and buying trashcans full of absolute junk guns - none of which probably even work. Brilliant. I guess they can't actually arrest criminals in Calif. any more. What a waste of a Police Dept. I'll bet that some criminals are probably selling the police guns and laughing all the way back to their car.

I don't remember were but, some police departments were selling the functional guns bought in the buy backs, so they can buy more guns with that money, that makes a LOT of sense.
drail --------- That "probably don't work" thing is NOT the case, at least here in San Diego. On the local Nextdoor App were complaints from people who had their guns refused by the police at the SD buy-back for not appearing functional. Their beef being that the guns DID work, but just looked very crummy.

Btw, I bought a Winchester 92 from a guy outside of one of these events. He was going to surrender it for a supermarket gift card.

In most of these so-called gun buy backs that certain cities conduct, they do not ask any questions of the seller about how they got the gun they are selling or where it came from. I don't think they even attempt to identify the seller. So, a seller could be trying to get rid of a murder weapon and all he/she has to do is drop it off at a gun buy back program? Do the cities even check the status of these guns (stolen/not reported stolen) or bother to run the ballistics checks to see if the gun was used in a murder??? I don't know what if anything that these cities do when running these buy backs. To me the idea of these buy back programs is BS.

I'd gladly go into business with you(y)
As mentioned above by magazineman. A perfect fence for stolen guns. The Ice heads and junkies love this crap to get rid of the merchandise that was burglered for the area homes. This will give them a fix until the next night. Hell, they can't even arrest the bums for stealing anything under $1000! Just given a "promise to appear". The Marist/Leninist program is spreading fast. Just wait till summer. When the fireworks really start.
Set up a table across the street and offer more $$ for the guns than the government is offering.

Just offering the same amount as the police would divert the guns to you. This is because your CASH is more desirable than the store gift cards offered by the authorities. They don't pay cash here, just cards or donated bikes / skateboards.

The gentleman I bought my Winchester from was on his way to swap it for a $50 Gift Card. So he readily accepted my $100 bill for it. The rifle is in .32-20 and since I have a Colt in that chambering it's a great matched set. (y)
Btw, It pains me to imagine the authorities destroying a Winchester Model 1892 to prevent it from being used in a crime.

---------- presumably a stagecoach robbery.

5 ghost guns at $200 each. I bring 5, my wife brings 5, and we'll gross $2,000. I could plan a vacation around that... We could plan a 1911 Forum get together out there and Santa Clara County would be footing the bill.

Come on now!! The weather in Silicon Valley is GREAT.

Here in Kentucky, the seized firearms are sold off to dealers at an auction, though some in the legislature are trying to get that stopped. I got a nice 5" Smith M-27 that way.......... I was working at a gunshop at the time, and the boss got in a bunch of confiscated guns. Most were craponastick, but that M-27 caught my eye, and I snapped it up.
