With money that they have illegally seized from the citizenry. Now that is what I call good governance.

I demand $6 million apiece for my guns!
Reselling the good or collectible guns would make sense. More sense than destroying them. The re-sold guns would now be owned by real, legal owners, vetted through the standard process.

Plus, of course, the stolen ones would be returned to the rightful owners. However, I could see a a few "rightful owners" repeatedly churning their guns through this profitable process! :p

Btw, the title of this thread used the term "bribe" ------- that's not really the deal. They were BUYING the guns. Because when I buy a nuggets I'm not "bribing" MacDonald's. It's a purchase.

Also, unless the cops sold the guns to the owners first, it's NOT a "Buy-Back" It's just a buy, period.
Gun buy backs are a great way to dispose of guns used in crimes including murder. I wonder if some of our corrupt politicians use fences to turn in guns to gun buy backs?
As mentioned above by magazineman. A perfect fence for stolen guns. The Ice heads and junkies love this crap to get rid of the merchandise that was burglered for the area homes. This will give them a fix until the next night. Hell, they can't even arrest the bums for stealing anything under $1000! Just given a "promise to appear". The Marist/Leninist program is spreading fast. Just wait till summer. When the fireworks really start.
The local District Attorney, a black activist, Soros funded attorney that used to be a judge, who, right after his election stated that his new policy would be to refuse to accept prosecution of theft offenses where the stolen property's value was under $750. I don't know if that includes theft of items stolen during a burglary or not, but, I can see how this stupid policy can include stolen firearms. The majority of the so-called "people of color" love this guy because it affects them (making them immune from prosecution for a lot of theft crimes) more than it does the majority of law abiding citizens. Well, actually it does because the majority of law abiding citizens are affected as they are the victims of this asinine, abuse of power, policy.

Well you can call it a buy but that would imply that they were giving market value for the guns. Not necessarily the case. But I think that bribe is likely a better descriptor. You have to consider that prior to the offer made by the authorities, none of these guns were likely already out there for sale on the open market. Maybe hair splitting but the end result is the same.
Anybody have a problem with an irresponsible gun owner selling a firearm? I look at this from a LEO perspective since I have worked in the ghetto and most people here, have not.

Most irresponsible gun owners inherited them from grandfathers, great uncles, etc, etc.

I guess that would depend on who they sell it to.

^^^ Indeed. Some Departments are required by law to sell any guns being held but not being used as evidence to raise money for the Department's budget - not City Hall's. Remember the Benchmade fiasco where the Police Chief "asked" Benchmade to cut up guns for them so they would fit in a small shipping box for recycling? He wasn't required by law or by a Judge to sell those guns - cutting them up was his personal policy and he's done this numerous times and always makes sure the local TV news is there with live coverage. And no one seems to notice that this is going on in their "hometown." Police departments have become just another political shovel for raking in cash for the people living off your taxes. You know - the ones you "elected".
It’s a fine line between bribing you to give up your gun and extorting you with red flag threats.

If they were serious, they’d get Sugar Daddy Bloomberg or Soros to fund market value purchases, and buy up everything on the online auction sites.

Eventually there’d be fewer and fewer available, and prices would rise.
Money (or gift cards) are a powerful motivator for those who seek it above everything else.

I have a Chiappa .22 "M1 Carbine" that to zero at 25 yards you have to run the sight all the way left. It also insists on pelting my face with hot brass.

This rifle identifies itself as a super-rare, never-issued M1 Carbine by IBM. First city to give me $250,000 in cold hard cash gets it. My Chiappa demands it be recognized as the rare antique it is! It demands to be referred to as "IBM Carbine" and not "can't-shoot-straight-italian-sh*tbox" as it says on the stamping it got at birth.

Buy-backs are for the ignorant (don't know what Gramps' WWI bringback is really worth), the brain-washed (OMG, gunszmns are BAAAAD) and those who want to dispose of evidence.

Feels like a solid 90% of the American population falls into the Brainwashed category.
