Some co-workers and I bought a loaded model as a gift, and I had planned on changing out the guide rod with a GI setup. Well, I ordered the parts from Brownelles and I must have clicked the wrong parts. I now only have the plug, not the rod. Now, can I use just the short part of the 2 peice with a GI plug? It appears to work fine.
My other option is to use a one piece full length rod I have laying around.
Any experience to whether or not that would work is appreciated, as I don't have time to reorder parts.

Also, I don't want this to become a discussion as to whether or not the 2 piece is a good system please no "why are you changing it?" and no full length vs. GI please.

Until you get the right parts you want, I would use the one piece full length.
I would not use half of the 2 piece as I would think the square sharp leading edge of the part would be hard on your recoil spring might even break it. GI rods are nicely rounded at the front. Might even be a little longer than a GI and damage your new plug or worse. IMHO.

Didn't think about that sharp edge....I suppose I could cannibalize the GI rod from my Kimber so the gift would be ready....
