Hey guys I have been looking at one of these guns. They are the same size a a Colt Commander right? How do they run out of the box? They sure seem like a good buy for the money. Thanks for any input.

I used to own one, back when I was looking for a pre-Series 80 Commander and couldn't find one. It was very reliable but wasn't very accurate, but again this was back before the current aftermarket barrels came out. I finally sold it when I located the Commander I really wanted in the first place. Looking back there was really no reason to have swapped, as the Champion was just fine and a new barrel would have made it shoot straight. Just so you know, the Champion and Compact use a 4" barrel while the Colts use a 4 1/4" barrel.

Just so you don't get the wrong idea....The "search" that was presented was not complete...If you want info, you need to do your own searches....Sometimes the info is skewed if the whole thread isn't followed to completion...Of course, if you haven't been around long, you wouldn't know that.

Just want you to have some completed threads to give an example...
From the above "search" directly under the "chosen" post is the resolutuion to that issue...

All of SA customer service issues to my knowledge are "resolved"...There may be others, but I remembered the outcome of this one because I researched it...I also corresponded with "Bwana" and quite a few others...Almost all were happy to talk about their experiences...To be fair, they usually posted a follow-up if there was a problem or not, just to clarify and give the "rest of the story"...

Ther are all sorts of things that happen and to my knowledge, this is the only guy that didn't have a good experience...
The point is, you should know the truth and you're gonna' hear lots of stories of good and bad...

Have fun...

Yeah, this is the only reason they are NOT allowed in Canada. Our government has determined that anything under a 4 1/4" barrel is inherently EVIL

I bought a Champion in december, '00, and for the most part I'm satisfied. This was after I sent it back to Springfield twice for a feed problem and slide not locking back after the last round.

They fixed the feed problem, but the slide stopped locking back again after 75 rounds. I put in a Wilson Combat magazine, and now it works perfectly.

I also had their custom shop install Novack low mount night sights. A friend of mine had someone else install Trijicon N.S. in his Commander. His are brighter, and the white outline around the capsule is much more visable than mine in low light situations. Oh well.

My Champion also shoots a tic low, but I'm going to live with it. After all, it's not a target pistol. I bought it as a defense weapon. 7 to 10 yards maximum.

Don't get me wrong, I really do like the pistol, and Springfield Customer Service seemed to bend over backwards to make it right.

Bottom line, it's extremely reliable, and I would buy from Springfield again.

Hope this helps!

Tim

Well, for Colorado, spring snow storm is normal...This was a damn blizzard for 18 hours...By 5pm, the sun was shinin' and almost all the snow was gone from the roads!

Oh well...If you don't like the weather in Colorado...Just wait a minute!

My friend, I'm rooting for ya. There aren't many states that have fairer, more reasonable gun laws than AZ.

I saw 2 advertised on www.youngsguns.com today. One was for 549.00 for a 2000 model and a little over 600 for the 2001 L model...That's a pretty good price from what I've seen. Everything I heard owners say about'em are good!
