Has anyone ever tried filling in the front cocking serrations?

It is my understanding (so, I'm probably wrong) that you can file down the serrations, but I've never heard of filling them in. You might be better off trading for/buying a new slide. Also, Springfield made a few of their Loaded guns without the front cocking serrations--I have one a LOVE it.

What exactly would you "fill" them with? I don't think I've heard of this approach before. Is it the cosmetics that offend you?

You'd have to have them welded surface ground & the slide re-heat treated. A serious risk of the slide being warped. Not worth it.

Belive Me You're not the first one to think about that.I was going to mix up some epoxy and fill in the foward serrations on My Springfield to ease holster presentations but finally decided to break the edges with a fine file and stones.Looks much better than a blob of glue and less trouble and expense than welding,milling,re-heat treating and a re-blue.tom.

edited for spelling correction.oops!

I just thought I would see if anyone has done this. They are too deep to grind off. I dunno, maybe try filling them with JB Weld? I just wonder if after I polish that down and reblue, will it still be visible? My reasons for this are partly cosmetic, but also because they are sharp-edged and could probably tear up a holster pretty quickly.
If it were mine, I'd either grind the front end of the slide down just enough to clean off the serrations with a surface grinder ala' High Power style, or melt the corners of the serrations so they don't grab as much. These are the only feasible ways that I can envision to fix your concern, short of replacing the slide. Welding is not an option that I wouls explore. Filling with JB Weld or any other epoxy can only be painted over, not blued or plated. Good Luck!

Bondo...I kinda like the JBWeld idea...not as much as the grinder though...

The other thing....How come there are so many diffrerent LPIs used? Sheesh...

How about solder? Could that work?

Sorry, no. Dehorn the edges, grind 'em off with a surface grinder or get a new slide. Anything else is flat too expensive AND iffy for any possible benefit.
Hey Muzzleblast..why not just trade it for a slide that has no serrations?
