I know this is the 1911 forum, but CZ pistols seem to be well respected and a good value. If you were looking to buy a fullsize 45acp for home defense, plinking and informal target which would you get? What about IDPA? The Springfild Mil-Spec and the CZ97 list for the same price $479.

I was going to get a CZ75SA, but ordered a progressive reloader and figured I didn't need another caliber to load.

I have never shot in matches, but I hear the 1911 reigns supreme. You will have a lot more options with the 1911 for customizing and tinkering.

I do know that the cz is highly regarded in most firearm circles. With the cz97 being among the best, non 1911, 45's.

I want to have both, but can't justfy having 2 fullsize 45's. At least not until I get a bonus the wife does not know about.

I would be more inclined to use the CZ for HD. DA, more than likely it will work right out of the box, and likely not to break.

I have a CZ75B and CZ75D PCR Compact, both in 9mm. They are great guns. Local store has a CZ97B and it feels really good in my hand. It's magazine holds 10 rounds as standard. It is kind of a large weapon that may not be as concealable as a 1911. Peter Kokalis wrote a good review on it. I believe he said it was the most accurate "out of the box" 45 he had ever fired. I have thought about getting one, but I have a hard time picturing myself owning a 45 that wasn't a 1911. I think the biggest complaint I have heard concerns its size.

Really depends on what type of action you prefer. I like the SA milspec. The one I bought happens to be one of the most accurate 45's I have bought in a few years. On the other hand, the CZ would give you the option of DA carry. I think either one fills the bill for the desired purposes you're looking at.
