I can't believe I have to ask this question, but over the years I've forgotten.
what is the standard recoil spring weight for a full size 1911? I want to say 16lbs. the original spring on one of my Colts seems very weak now. shot a few rounds of Magtech FMJs the other day and could feel that the frame was being battered. stopped shooting right away. got home and installed a 14lbs spring that I had sitting around and was never used, and that was stronger than the original spring. I still have the package for the used 14lbs one and it says: "reduced power".
please refresh my memory, thanks guys.

ok thanks. brain fart, it happens.
so for another question: could you go up to 18 or 20lbs for +p hot self defense loads? and if so, what main spring should you use with those?

I use an 18.5 w/ buffers with 230 grain LRN at 850-900 fps

I've never used those recoil buffers as I've heard they can disintegrate and gum up the works. I guess if you change them enough though..
did you put a heavier Main spring in too?

I did a search for "standard rate recoil spring", and got 38 hits.
