It would Be Great To See Posts and Updates on the match. The main event I believe is friday and saturday?

Koenig Left on wed for the match, he will be shooting 90 gr bullets at 1100 fps.

I do not know if he usually shoots it? but Jarret sent a note that he is going to the challenge this year also.

Our list's own Jim, and Tom I suspect will also attend?

If I am the Tom you were referring to I am not going. I was supposed to leave for the European IPSC Championship today, but the forest fires got too bad this past week. So, it’s off to Boise so I can dump red goop on trees and no play for me. If I get any time off, hahaha, I will stop off at Milt Sparks shop and say hello.

I think Julie from the AMU will be there as Max and Adam are in Germany.

Best of luck to all. Remember, speed first, accuracy will come.

Hi guys!

It is hot (100's) & dusty here in Piru.

Yesterday was the 22 rimfire match. Unofficial BSing put the winners as Angus overall and Voight w/ iron sights.

I am just about to leave for the Limited match. Tomorrow is the Open match.

I'll post official results as soon as I can.

Boy, I LOVE this time of year!!!

Shoot steel fast,

Jim

"Fire, aim, ready!" Hehehe

I call myself 'the Lumberjack' because I always end up hitting the wooden post and chop the steel targets down.

Kimber goes "timber!"

Also 'woodpecker'. Hehehe

Well, I shot my first four stages today. Started with "5 to Go", moved on to "Smoke an' Hope", then to "Speed Option" and finally "Showdown".

This is my first "big" match, and the butterflies welled up as I stepped into the box on "5 to Go". As I drew for my first shot, I could actually feel my hand shaking as I brought the gun up to the target. I settled in nicely though, and by the second stage, I was having a ball! Irv Stone III joined our squad and shot very well. He's also a really nice guy!

I didn't get a chance to say hello to Rob Leatham (He gave me a holster (I'm using it in the match-It's great!) and one of his hats a few months ago)but I saw him there with Todd Jarret, and hopefully I'll be able to watch those guys and Koenig a bit more tomorrow.

I got a free video from the Gun-Site booth, a great sandwich from the Boy-Scouts, and spend $10 shooting the dirt behind the targets at the "Gauntlet" where you could win a Sig-Pro pistol.

Perusing the tables during the waits between stages, I noted some really cool Blade-Tech holsters, cheap Energizer batteries for Sure-Fires (2 for $5!!!), some cool loking Vang-Comp shotguns, neat western holsters, and some guy's custom 1911's.

(Just kiddin' Jim--Those custom Briley guns looked great! I only have three stages tommorrow, so I'll gawk and drool more closely tomorrow!)

Then I went up to the Para-Ordinance side match and shot some of those guns (for FREE, yes really!) I found my next purchase, a C7 "Companion" LDA. I'll be putting a deposit down on one Tuesday. I recommend you try it.

Lastly, a tip of the hat to Springfield Armory and their service. Just after I signed up for the Steel Challenge, I found that the front sight of my gun to be a bit loose. Not wanting to chance it falling off in the middle of the match, I sent it back to Springfield to have a front sight dovetailed. I told them that I wanted the sight installed, the safety checked (I went at it with a dremel and re-contoured it. I really liked the feel, but wanted to make sure it still worked right.) The guy on the phone checked and said it would be $60 for the sight, and the safety check would be free under warranty. When I sent it in, I enclosed a note asking that they send a standard recoil spring guide and a FLGR with plug. I told them to charge my card.
Well, earlier this week, the gun arrived back home with the new sight, which gives a great sight picture with the single dot. In addition, they re-fit the slide to the frame, checked the safety, and sent the parts. I was charged only for the parts that I ordered, and there was no shipping charge.

I can't wait to go back tommorrow!!

Well, it's off to clean the Springfield, good luck to all shooters and hope to see you there!

What was Robbie shooting?? his 6"..He has been tearing it up with it and there was some talk on Brian Enos board that he and Robbie were taliking about him trying the 6" gun because he was hitting well with it..just curious..thanks for the report
Hi guys!

Just got back from dinner w/ Claudio Salassa from Briley & Todd Jarrett. We ran into Kerby Smith, Cal Elrich, Bruce Grey & Ken Kupsch at the restaurant.

As always, it's great to be at the Challenge. EVERYONE is here at the match; there are over 200 entries this year.

Bill- Glad you like the Briley guns. Please look for me and say hello.

eerw- Robbie shot his 5" 38 super 1911 in the Limited match. Todd shot his LDA limited gun. He will also be using an LDA in the open match tomorrow. I shot these guns when we were practicing. They're very nice.

Koenig did not shoot the limited match, instead opting for an extra day of practice for the open event.

BTW, the 22 match results were official as I last reported.

Everyone (especially me) is looking forward to tomorrow's open match. This is when everybody tries to "light it up".

Gotta go get the equipment ready for tomorrow and get a good night's sleep. Hopefully the Steel Gods will smile upon me and it will be my day.

Shoot steel fast,

Jim

Congrats Jim!!! (Nice piece of hardware you took from the prize table.)

I would like to point out to everyone, as if watching the likes of Koenig, Leatham, Jarrett, etc. isn't depressing enough, K.C. Eusebio (3rd overall) is 13 YEARS OLD!!!!!

He shot with Jarrett during the Team v. Team Shootoff, and he's gonna be big!

I, on the other hand, came in a wopping 120th. (Hey--It's my first time!) but I made 6th place in CDP division, and since Mike Dalton doesn't take prizes, I got bumped up to 5th and got $100.

In addition, my 120th place finish got me a prize package of a Safariland Competition holster (Watch out next year--I'm already practicing!), Magazine holder, fanny pack, a set of grips, and a cleaning mat.

This match was well worth the $240 entrance fee, and the people that I met were wonderful! I saw Jim O'Young there, but I was runnin' around, and so was he, and I didn't get a chance to say hello. Oh well, there's always next year!

In short, I'm hooked. I'm pretty sure that next year will be a double-entry in CDP and Open or Limited class. I have a whole year now to get ready!

Until next time,

William Edwards III

Congrat's to ALL the member's here who went out and blasted Steel...

I'd forgotten about the "Challenge", I suppose I will have to plan for next years outing... What an awesome learning experience. Sounds like everyone had fun. I am just starting to get back into Competion after a very long absence. Kinda surprised at the amount of bad habits I developed over the years that have to be "Un-Learned", but the slow start back is probably for the best.

Jim, I'd forgotten you were close by, you and I should hook up, I'd love to pick up some "secrets" from a 90th percentile "Challenge Shooter"

Tom... Sux to be you, say hi to Tony...

Also, I'd seen some stuff on that kid K.C., and you're right, he's pretty awesome, and at 13, has a lifetime in front of him... Follow this one... He'll be a winner soon...

Well... Congrat's again to all...

Well, here I am in my annual state of post Steel Challenge depression/bliss/afterglow.

As always, it was a great match and an even better time, although shooting 7 stages every day {open (20th overall), limited (40th overall) and rimfire (11th overall)} didn't allow enough time to socialize and meet everyone as I normally like to do. I did get to meet Scooter from the forums and I'll be looking for SF Bill next year (he's hooked!). Congratulations you two on completing your very first Steel Challenge. Jaydee, let's get together & bang some steel.

In the shootoffs, I was fortunate enough to be paired up with John Allchin, who is an excellent shooter and a longtime friend. We won a couple of bouts, but were later defeated by the eventual winners, Jerry Miculek & JJ Racaza after we had them down 1-0.

As for K.C., we're all hoping that he'll discover girls REAL soon. It's probably our only chance to win this match in the future. In the last 10 or so years, I have watched him grow into not only an excellent shooter, but into a well rounded young man. His parents, Sancho (a great shooter in his own right) and Porsche have done a phenomenal job in raising him. Against my protests, KC still calls me "Mr. O'Young" because he says it is a sign of respect.

The match gets better every year. It is a professionally and efficiently run event, yet maintains a friendly, family-like atmosphere. Kudos to the match organizers, range staff, range officers, sponsors and all the competitors for making the Challenge the first class event that it is.

My eternal thanks go to my sponsors at Briley & Hogue and to the S&W Performance Center for donating the beautiful 945 that I was fortunate enough to win.

Just think, ONLY 360 days to next year's match!!!

Shoot steel fast,

Jim
