What is the preferred STI Edge 40 cal. recoil spring weight for 170 power factor loads? The stock issue appears to be a 10 lb. spring. Should one always run a 10 lb. or will a 16 lb. spring save wear and tear?

I think the stock spring is 14 lb. (No lighter than 12lb) I like to put in 14 lb to start and then go to 12 lb after the gun breaks in. You should shoot several different spring weights between 12 and 16 lbs and see how the gun handles for you. Use what feels best and is reliable. I would not go under 12 lb the gun will be taking too much abuse.

I am running a Wolf Variable 13 lb recoil spring, 19 lb mainspring and a square firing pin stop. But, my slide has been lightened to that of a standard cut slide. Just like the edge, I have a tungsten guide rod and bull barrel.

Most shooters around here are using 12-13 lb recoil springs and 180 gn bullets.

Good shooting to you.

RacerX and the 10 pound STI spring are a give away, but no - I'm not Christy Turlington.

Going to the meeting at Howard's next weekend?
