Streamlight Strion... Opinions Please

I'm thinking about investing in a good multipurpose light. My eyes are on the Strion. If anyone has experience with this light please contribute. This is the new litium ion battery powered so im really curious. We all know that lit-ion batteries are powerful and long lasting compared to NiMh, but how do they compare to 123 litiums? Also I like li-ion because they don't hold a charge "memory" when it comes to recharging, so they don't have to discharge fully to be recharged.

Does it have an adjustable beam pattern. I'd actually prefer that it DOESN'T.

Can this light serve well as a "tactical" light (sorry for using the T word

)?

How does the brightness and beam pattern compare to say a Surefire G2 or 6P? I know the methods of measuring lumens aren't standard from manufacturer to manufacturer.

How do you feel about the recharging system? Does it shut off by itself when the battery is full or do you have to time it?

Any comments or recommendations on a better lighting tool would be greatly appreciated. I just want to be sure that I'm spending 100 bux wisely.

Very good light, if you shop around you should be able to get it cheaper about 70ish depending on charger setups.

I've had mine for a few months now, it's my work light in the auto shop and also my small general use light since I don't have to feel guilty wasting batteries. The focus is somewhat variable, same reflector as a TL-2/NF-2. The Strion has a VERY long throw, it's not that great for flood use.

Output wise is very similar to comparable 2x123 lights, TL-2, G2, E2E, all output very similar levels of usable light. I don't EDC mine as a "tac" light, my main reason is I keep a Lithium light (TL-2) with fresh lithiums that aren't used. I'd rather that light be fully ready go if the SHTF. My Strion gets used daily and I recharge it every week or 2.

It is awesome for its size! Very comparable to the 6P. I wish that I had two Strions rather than one of each! My SL-20 stays in my duty-bag most of the time and I use a mini-mag whenever possible to save my better lights for real work.

It seems like the beam is not quite as adjustable on the Strion compared to the 6P.

How much light a particular unit produces is a direct product of voltage and current drain.Obviously the shorter the battery life usually the brighter the light. This is why when you take a 123 a 3 volt cell and stack two of them and discharge it in 1.5 hours you get a lot of light, (and heat). I would go to a police equipment supply store, they usually have a demo stand with all that they carry for you to try out and see what makes you happy before you spend the big bucks. I noticed a limited version of this at a Gander Mountain store, propably have one at Cabellas too.

Love my Strion... I use it as a duty light. Yes, you can charge it anytime seeing the batteries do not have a memory. It dose have an adjustable beam. Projection is very far for such a compact light. Recharging system will not let you overcharge the battery. The charger does blink when the light is fully charged. There is also a safty shut off built into the light to shut it off when the battery gets to a low condition to prevent damage to battery and light. I think this light is a very versitile little unit...

Can't add much other than I've used mine a few months on duty now. I love it, and think its the greatest little light. I work mid.s and use it eveyday (night). Don't know how I went the first 5 years of my career without it !!
