SW1911
SW1911
SW1911
SW1911
etc...

Excluding the PD/DK... Since these are all designated SW1911, what's the proper way to refer to the different sw1911 models?

Features? SKU?

Unfortunately it`s mostly by the SKU....like my 108284 "5 inch satin finish stainless with wood grips and target sights.

I have never figured out why S&W refuses to name their models. I guess unlike Kimber, Smith still keeps their marketing department in check. ;)

They pretty much are.

Classic, Tactical, Target, Nickel, Blued, etc.

I agree, I have never been one to remember something by it's number but rather by it's noun nomenclature. While working as an Aero Enguneer for the USN, there were several guys who prided themselves in being able to quote the Part/Model number of all of our gear. I always, with some degree of annoyance, had to ask them what they were talking about. I not only see this with Smith & Wesson but more commonly with Springfield owners.

Mine is SKU: 170243, but I just refer to it as a PC1911. :D

Damn, sholling, nice one... I hadn't even looked at that one (out of my price range). Now I wish I hadn't.

sgt, yours is the one I'm going to fondle at the shop this week.

Mine's the third one down the list of links as well.

SW1911 5" SS FS
where SS = Stainless Steel & FX = Fixed SIghts.

Is this what someone referred to as CLassic?

I'd say Classic MOdern with the Beavertail and
skletonized trigger & Hammer

Mine is Model 108293 and S&W can't figure out how it came through with a naturally finished stainless steel slide and a Melonite frame.

Guns we like and guns we don't!

This is how we refer to our "1911" style handguns in my neck of the woods.
Simply as guns we like or guns we do not like.

Two Cents
