here's a picture of Ed King, the guy that wrote and played the music (most of it) to Sweet Home Alabama and other Skynyrd songs. He's holding a custom made Para .45 given to him by his son, who happens to be a Navy SEAL. It says "Victory Through Violence" on the slide. (He's being funny in this picture, notice the shirt. He's usually funny and witty on his facebook page)

Ed was originally for SoCal and was a key member of Strawberry Alarm Clock. It took him a bit to shake the hippie influence.

and....

Hand guns are made for killin'
Ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

Pretty much summarizes a huge percent of the anti-gun population's sentiments.
While one song doesn't represent a group's entire catalog or philosophy, that's the one I associate with this group. They did write the (much)later "God & Guns", but too little, too late in my mind.. I kind of get tired of all the references in their songs, to getting drunk and doing stupid things(shooting, driving, robbing...).

Ya, here's the rest of it....

Well hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ole fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me
I liked their music but always thought they were kind of ignorant and/or not very intelligent due to their hypocrisy on gun issues. I know most/some band members where into guns and handguns in particular, but to then write a song about the negative virtues of them..... and given the influence they as a major Rock and Roll band would have, I chose to use the albums I had of theirs as targets.

AGREE

There are allot of songs out there that people love that are not what they think, maybe being drunk and not listening to the words is one reason we have this issue lol, another song is "Born in the USA"

That song always irkd me and drop them down many spots on my favorite bands. But then they had this too:

Life is so strange when it's changin', yes indeed
Well I've seen the hard times and the pressure's been on me
But I keep on workin' like the workin' man do
And I've got my act together, gonna walk all over you

(chorus)
Gimme back my bullets
Put 'em back where they belong
Ain't foolin' around 'cause I done had my fun
Ain't gonna see no more damage done
Gimme back my bullets

Sweet talkin' people done ran me out of town
And I drank enough whiskey to float a battleship around
But I'm leavin' this game one step ahead of you
And you will not hear me cry 'cause I do not sing the blues

(chorus)
Gimme back my bullets
Put 'em back where they belong
Ain't foolin' around 'cause I done had my fun
Ain't gonna see no more damage done
Gimme back, gimme back my bullets
Oh, put 'em back... where they belong

Been up and down since I turned seventeen
Well I've been on top, and then it seems I lost my dream
But I got it back, I'm feelin' better everyday
Tell all those pencil pushers, better get out of my way

(chorus)
Gimme back my bullets
Put 'em back where they belong
Ain't foolin' around, 'cause I done had my fun
Ain't gonna see no more damage done
Gimme back, gimme back my bullets
Oh put 'em back where they belong
Gimme back my bullets

The band members have changed over the years, but "Saturday Night Special" will always be one of their signature songs and reason enough for me to not like them, regardless of how much they've pretended to have changed to a more pro-gun stance.

Most of the pre crash Skynyrd are dead. Plus, there are more surviving pre-crash Skynyrd than in the current lineup.

That said, you fellows must get tired of listening to Ted Nugent.

One of my favorite songs of all time is Swamp Music.

Going down to the swamp
Gonna watch me a hound dog catch a '****
Well, I'm going down to the swamp
Gonna watch me a hound dog catch a '****
You know the hounddog make-a music
On a summer night under a full moon

Lord, fetch my cane pole mama
Gonna catch a bream or maybe two
Lord, fetch my cane pole mama
Gonna catch a bream or maybe two
And when the hound dog start barkin'
Sounds like ol' Sir Hound singin' the blues
I like Gimme 3 Steps also

I was cutting the rug
Down at place called The Jug
With a girl named Linda Lou
When in walked a man
With a gun in his hand
And he was looking for you know who
He said, "Hey there, fellow
With the hair colored yellow
Whatcha tryin' to prove?
'Cause that's my woman there
And I'm a man who cares
And this might be all for you"
I said, "Excuse me"

I was scared and fearing for my life
I was shaking like a leaf on a tree
'Cause he was lean, mean
Big and bad, Lord
Pointin' that gun on me
"Oh, wait a minute, mister
I didn't even kiss her
Don't want no trouble with you
And I know you don't owe me
But I wish you'd let me
Ask one favor from you"

"Oh, won't you
Gimme three steps, gimme three steps, mister
Gimme three steps toward the door?
Gimme three steps, gimme three steps, mister
And you'll never see me no more"
For, sure

Well the crowd cleared away
And I began to pray
And the water fell on the floor
And I'm telling you, son
Well, it ain't no fun
Staring straight down a forty-four
Well, he turned and screamed at Linda Lou
And that's the break I was looking for
Well, you could hear me screaming a mile away
I was headed out toward the door

That song is about "bullets" on the Billboard charts. Billboard used bullets to signify that say a song was at #5 and if they put a bullet next to it it was likely to move up the next week.

You simply cannot let a band's/actor's/author's lefty tendencies bother you or you will not be able to enjoy anything, since flaming liberals dominate in all of those areas of entertainment. Unless their ideology is so overt in what they actually produce that it cannot be avoided, you just have to let it go.

I frankly do not understand the fascination with celebrities. 90% of them whore themselves out to what they consider the most popular stance to increase their fanbase. Really, who cares? I do not.
