Tac Ultra grips

Hello all, I recently picked up a Tac Ultra FSHC in 45. Needless to say it’s a monster in the hand. With that said I’d like to find some thinner grip options. After some brief research I’ve found that there are some para p14 grips that could possibly work, but RIA is inconsistent with grip screw hole placement, so no guarantees there. Not a fan of the hogue finger grip so that’s out. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have bought from here and was happy with the product, but I don't believe you can go thinner without durability issues. A phone call to Browne's might help.

Pearce has a grip similar to Houge but u keep your current grips. Rubber grove in front is all there is.

Awesome I’ll check them out.
VZ Grips also have a Slim Line series. I haven't shot my RIA 10 mm HC 1911 yet, but it does feel like a handful just holding it. I may check out the VZ grips down the road.

I saw those as well but from what I can see they don’t have the small tabs that cover the hole in front of the grip safety that exposes the trigger bow.

I just noticed that tab, my RIA is only 2 weeks old and I haven't field stripped it yet. That is a DUMB design feature that's going to make finding another set of grips a nightmare. Fortunately, I've got fairly large hands so maybe it won't be a big deal. Still, it'd be nice to have options. Ugh.

AGREED! This is my first 1911 period and I had to buy one with the most ridiculous grip design lol

Exactly what I figured out the hard way. I contacted VZ and and told the exactly what I had and they told me what would fit and I ordered them. They came in and didn't fit and didn't have that tab. Grrr. Oh well, those will go on another.
vz does have grips that will fit. They sent you the wrong grips.

I looked on VZ's website. They have grips for the Para P14.

In the description, it says: "These grips will fit the Para Ordnance P14, P16, P18, as well as the Remington R1 Enhanced Double Stack"

Do those fit the RIA Tac Ultra FS HC? It looks like they have the correct tab, so I'm thinking yes, but hoping for confirmation.

No. You need the VZs for RIA DS.

I contacted them again and now they say they don't make those anymore. Ugh.

Are those the same material and texture as the stock grips?

I wanted to order VZ Grips to get something that is more grippy. If those ones from AT are nothing but a different color, I would have no reason to get them.

Same composite used by VZ and Loc.

My A2 Rocks (early unramped barrel examples) had cheap plastic from the factory, so no. But later A2s have been offered with G10 composite, so ...

I think these will meet your needs. The only one other vendor I know of for Rock A2 grips is Rock Island Armory Grips

Best of luck.

Thanks. I have to say I'm unclear on whether you are saying the grips from AT would be more grippy than what came stock on my Roc.

The RIA Grips link to Browneworks appears to only offer grips made from wood. That would definitely not be the level of grip/traction I'm looking for.

But, it's all moot (for now). I ordered some grips from Hayes Custom today. HOPEFULLY, they are more grippy than the factory grips. The pictures they have LOOK like their grips are the VZ Grips Operator II pattern. If so, then they will be JUST what I want.

I finally got my RIA Ultra HC 10 mm to the range. I have medium-large(ish) hands, wearing XL gloves in my healthcare job. This pistol is a handful, not so much in terms of recoil, but rather it just fills your hand. Because of the aforementioned stupid tabs on the grips, replacement options are limited.

I ordered a thin set of Browne's grips and I am very, very impressed for three reasons: First, it wasn't clear to me how to order engraving patterns through the website, so I asked that question through their website on Superbowl Sunday at ~ 8:00 PM Eastern time. I got a response by !0:00 PM Eastern time that same night. IMPRESSIVE. Second, the grips arrived in my mailbox on Thursday afternoon of the same week. Maybe they had a set of cocobolo grips with full checkering for a RIA Ultra HC just lying around, but probably not. IMPRESSIVE. Lastly, these grips are gorgeous! Absolutely beautiful. IMPRESSIVE.

TBH, they are not appreciably thinner than the stock RIA grips but are much, much grippier. I'm not sure you could make grips thin enough on a double stack 10 to not have a pistol that fills your hand. Nature of the beast, I guess...
