I carried a Wilson Combat, lightweight, full size, 45 acp, 1911 for a long time as an edc. I switched to a HL P 2000 mainly because it was lighter. I am curious to know how many here carry a 1911 as an edc and whether it is an all steel or lightweight,. a commander or full size?

Considering this is a 1911 forum, I would hope everyone here carries one.

I carry an all-steel 1911 everyday and am not worried about its featherweight (compared to what I used to carry for a living) of either an all-steel Commander or 5" 1911. I have no need to own an alloy gun, nor would I.

One of eleven 1911s I carry daily (only one at a time)

Sorry I did not know we were supposed to post pictures, here is one of my Steel Commanders the day I was replacing the last of the springs:

My EDC is usually something more sensible, a SIG P365. However since the 1911 remains my all-time favorite firearm I do try to carry one on occasion when the weather and dress conditions allow. Wintertime is when you'll most likely find me packing Old Slabsides, usually in the form of my Colt Commander, stainless S80 Government or possibly even one of my USGI clones.

I switch back and forth between my full size, all steel Night Hawk Custom 10mm and my DW stainless steel Specialist Commander (4 1/4" barrel) in 10mm as my EDC. I never had any issues carrying fullsize pistols (various pistols over my 28 year career from Sig P229 and P226 stainless elite models) with four spare magazines on my belt as well as handcuffs in a belt case when I was working. As long as you have a decent belt, holster, and pouches, full size all steel guns are no problem to carry.

Now that I'm retired I've sold my Sigs and carry my full size and Commander size all steel pistols with four spare magazines on a 5.11 Apex Gunner's Belt. Weight is and never has been an issue with any of my guns.

One of my two current EDC setups.

Here are the two Sigs that I owned that were authorized for duty carry that I sold after I retired.

I don't care about weight as long as you have a good gun belt to carry it. But, I always preferred the 1911 type pistols because their profiles makes them a lot easier to conceal under a loose fitting shirt like a 5.11 shirt or a Hawaiian shirt. These Sigs with their thicker (fatter) profile were a little more difficult to conceal.

When I fell in love with 1911s a couple of years ago, it was only a matter of time before I switched to one for my CCW pistol. The first one was a Dan Wesson ECO. I lucked upon a great deal for a used one that I felt had probably been bought, then put away. It looked brand new. The barrel was perfectly fitted. No kidding. When reassembling, when the barrel is inserted into the slide and pushed back into lockup, there is zero, and I mean zero, play. It is amazing how accurate that pistol is with a 3.5" barrel. But the only thing I'd ever not liked about the ECO was the capacity of 8+1 rounds of 9mm.

Then one day, I discovered the Bul Armory SAS II FS. An officer sized 2011 that held 15+1 rounds in a package smaller than the ECO. What a pistol! It's been a great shooting pistol, but the barrel was not properly fitted. I'm actually awaiting a return tag to be issued so it can head back to Bul for a new barrel. But once it comes back, and I've put a couple hundred more rounds thru it and am happy with it's accuracy and reliability, it will become my new EDC.

In the way past, I carried a Colt Officer's Model, then a Government Model, next a Browning Hi Power. In 1996, I changed to a Glock 19 for my duty weapon and have carried it on and off duty ever since. The hammers on the Colt's and Browning took a toll on my clothes.

I carry a 1911 daily, depending on the weather and where I am, I usually carry a steel frame commander or Govt but recently acquired a beautiful alloy frame that I may start daily carry. Glad to see several carry multiple magazines. You can never have enough ammo when shtf.

You folks might smile at this. A number of years ago, I found myself "between suitable carry" guns. I'm a southpaw. At the time the gun that I was most proficient with was a full-size Kimber, I partially satisfied carry to/from work with this: I altered a Galco leather OWB right-handed holster into a receiver for it.

It sufficed for years. I no longer have the Kimber, or the bag. As you can see, these pics (along with thousands more of mine) are in PhotoBucket jail.
