I like longslide 1911's, always have, always will and always will have had at least one. The best reason to have one is you WANT one!

But, forget longslide performance... at least back burner it as an unexpected bonus if you find a powder that you chrono and squeeze a dozen or more FPS out of it over a 5" barrel.

Longslides for sure add sight radius, and weight forward that helps keep recoil down as well as add a bit of stability, and they (IMO) look great.

Also in a higher performance cartridge that was designed for short barrel like the .357 Sig, the ball of fire out of the muzzle virtually disappears and the sheer blast volume is directed more down range... perhaps adding to the discomfort of shooters in adjacent lanes :)

OP, maybe you can get a 6" slide and 6+" threaded barrel... get a screw on comp and see how you like it? It'll be more easily found and maybe even cheaper.

I have a 6” Baer. I was at the LGS when it came in. Part of an estate I think. I don’t think it had ever been shot. Price was right. I like it.

The long sight radius is a help. I think.

I can’t imagine a 7” one though. If you want it, then you must have it. Someday. And I hope that someday is soon. Tell us how it shoots.

Best wishes

^^^ 6" in 10mm is my idea of a magnum class pistol. Must be sweet to shoot.

I just received my 7 inch slide and barrel from Fusion. I can't wait to get this build finished. I really do not care about if I gain any velocity, I'm building it just because I want a 7 inch in my collection. The slide and barrel quality is very nice. I have 4 Fusion 1911 pistols and I like them all., great shooters. This one is my build but will have mostly Fusion Parts.

If you already own a Dan Wesson, I doubt you will be very happy with the Fusion. That Bruin is a very good handgun.
Other than the fact you do not have one, what are you wanting out of a 7”?
Trust me, I am not looking down on you the least bit. Plenty of guns I have bought simply because I do not have one

If you decide to move that 6” Clark…..please let me know

It seems any cartridge requiring 7” of barrel to efficiently burn its powder is rimmed and has “Magnum” after the number. Other than sight radius I don’t see a gain with a 7” 1911.

I have a 6” Clark long slide 1911 in 45 ACP and greatly prefer the 5” Gov’t Model length.
I have a 5” 1911 with the same Bomar rib as the Clark 6” pistol and greatly prefer the balance of the 5”. Just input to consider.

Dunno about that. I have a DW Bruin and a Fusion Pro Line and my Fusion is the best made commercial 1911 that I own or have owned. Maybe not quite on the level of the DW but pretty darn close and Farrr better than anything Colt ever made.

Circling back to this old post.

A 7” 10mm 1911 has been on my “to do” list for about 40 years.

Granted, (and obviously), not very high on the old “to do” list … LOL … but it’s been there.

After a lot of waffling back and forth, plus research, I ended up going a different route than the 7” Fusion option.

Full custom build from a full custom smith. Me and him are working on the design. That’s all I will say for now, but I’m moving ahead with the effort.

still some lead-time left, but I’ll post photos once it’s done.

Oh, and I ordered the violin case too … LOL. Technically, it’s a ukelele case, but yeah - I’m definitely planning to show up for our steel challenge match with a ukelele case and a 7” 10mm once this is done. ;)

and a fedora.
