Now with the recent tragic events of Tuesday. Do you think transporting Guns to the Nationals will be tough? Does anyone have a suggestion for Alternative Transport?
Is anyone driving from New Jersey? I have to be there on Tuesday by 8:00.

JoeMc,

I know a dealer in TN who would accept shipment for a minimal fee (perhaps none at all) and I could drive it the rest of the way. John Forsyth and I plan to leave early Tue morning and arrive at MISS about noon. We should be staying in the house directly across the road from the range (not the "dead animal" house...we should be in the one on the right). It would be my pleasure if you are so inclined.

I really doubt that you would have any trouble with the airlines as long as all the rules were followed, but I can empathize with your worry. Let me know if I can help.

Mikey,
Undoubtably there are dozens who are flying in to the Nationals. I will be flying to Memphis from Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 3rd in order to compete on Thursday. I would not be suprised if checking firearms was temporarily prohibited. 250-300 rounds of 230 grain .45 ACP may also become a hassle due to the weight.
What is the name of the dealer? Is the dealer in Memphis?

The dealer I use is in South/Central TN and I won't display his name since he runs a very limited gun business. He is a good friend, fellow pistol club member and Nationals competitor.

If the volume of guns needing to be shipped becomes large, obviously the offer I made couldn't hold for long. There is a facility in Memphis called Rangemaster www.rangemaster.com and several of their employees/instructors come to the Nationals. Give them a call and see if they know how something might be accomplished.

I made a few calls with respect to how do you get your stuff to the Nats if the airlines will not let check it. This has been told to me, but if you think you might do this, you need to make a few calls to verify.

The BATF regulatory agency has said that you are allowed to ship your firearm to YOURSELF. For example you may ship the package to YOURSELF at the FedEx office near the airport you will be flying into. You may then go to that office and pick up YOUR package.

If you think you may need to do this, I would start making calls and contact the BATF or the shipping agency and find out for yourself.

If I find out anymore, I will post it.

I will be driving to the match on leaving the homestead on Tuesday. If you need help getting you handguns there drop me a line. I am an ffl holder so it is no problem.

I'm fairly certain we drop could drop ship an order of factory ammo to MISS.

If any one is interested please email me off list [email protected]

I have friends who flew with firearms right after the terrorist attacks. There are no changes in the checking procedures. Firearms are still allowed to be in checked baggages.
