Looking at the rules for the Single Stack Division it says "Coned barrels or barrels with flanges are prohibited, except in 1911 compact pistols with a barrel length of 4.2 inches or less".

I am new to competition and considering a NightHawk Predator for next year. Would a true commander length 4.25 inch bull or cone barrel be illegal for the new Single Stack Division or in IDPA ESP or CDP.

Seems like the answer is yes, but since I am new to all of this thought I would ask some seasoned vets.

Since the rule said 4.2" or less, then the 4.25" BULL barrel would NOT be legal.

Run a set of calipers across the barrel, it may actually spec out within 4.2" My 4" barrel IIRC actually runs 3.9"

I would speculate that the number 4.2 inches was chosen specifically to allow nominally four inch barrels that may be a little too long compared to their spec, but to preclude the use of 4.25 inch and longer barrels.

It does seem strange that they chose a number so close to the Commander's nominal barrel length. "Everyone" else makes 4" guns, so you get your choice of a bull barrel, or an extra .05" of length? I think 3.75" would have made more sense, allowing "officers length" guns a bull, but not "Commander length" (4"-4.25") guns.
